September - December 1994

Nancy wasn't feeling well, she was never the one to complain. She went to the doctors, they sent her for tests, there they found a tumor. This is when it all started.

She went for tons of tests. then she went to have the tumor removed, we were sitting in the Hartford hospital, waiting for the surgery to be over, it seemed to be for ever, what was taking so long, well, they finally came out, they said they couldn't remove the whole tumor. they said it was inter twined in all her organs and they couldn't get it all out, but I remember them clearly telling us it was non life threatening

She came home, she looked GREAT, never complained about a thing. Went on with her life, she did look good, she was never a complainer,. but I knew there was still something wrong and I wasn't going to stop until I found out what, and I did.

Nancy went back to the Hartford hospital for more tested, the tumor was growing, she wasn't feeling well, but was never the one to complain. I met her doctor in the hallway, asked about Nancy, he wouldn't tell me anything, well, I was not going to leave that hospital until I could find out what was wrong with my sister...

I stormed into the doctors office, right threw the employee's only door, pass all the other doctors and nurses until I found him, I said I was not leaving here until you tell me what is wrong with my sister, he told me all her problems are in her head, I just could not believe what I had just heard and this was the doctor telling me this, that it was all in my sisters head, ya right, well I should have gone back to that doctor 4 months later and let him know that my sister had died from that tumor he said was non life threatening and all in her head

I finally got my hands on the doctors report, Nancy had a Massive Abdominal Neurofibroma Tumor, this tumor was supposedly very rare, there was not much information I could get from the doctors as you could see, so....

Called my girlfriend who worked at a local hospital, asked about this tumor, being that Nancy wasn't a patient there, she could tell me about this tumor,. if she was patient, then she too, couldn't tell me anything with out Nancy's permission, so she said she would call me back, see what she could find out, call me back she did, wish I never got that call, she told me there was no cure, it was a slow death. The tumor was enter twining around all Nancy's organs she was slowly dying. Now I had to go and tell my Mom & Dad the new's, which was the hardest thing I ever had to do, to tell them there was no cure, that their daughter was going to die, but I did everything I could to try and find a cure for her, but I never did, only wish I had a computer back then, maybe I would have found a cure for her

I went to see Nancy's doctor, wanted to find out if she knew anything about the tumor, I told her what I knew (didn't tell her where I got the information from) but I told her there was no cure, I knew Nancy was dying, she wouldn't admit it to me, I wanted to know how long Nancy had,. being Nancy's doctor, she couldn't say anything with out Nancy's permission (doctor/patient confidentiality), all she would say, it could be weeks, months or even years, they didn't know, she even told me, if I could find a cure, she would fly Nancy anywhere in the world, well there wasn't a cure. She said, just to let Nancy enjoy the rest of her life

April 6 - 14, 1995

Nancy went back into the hospital, she was then transported to the Sloane Kettering Hosptial in  New York.  I remember going there and her telling me, she wanted me to stay with her, I didn't think I could do it, I hated hospitals, but I stayed and stayed I did, right by her bedside, I watch the nurses give her her shoots (and I didn't pass out) and made sure they were not hurting her, I remember sleeping right in front of her bed on a chair, I woke in the middle of the night and she was laying there with her mouth open, she scared the heck out of me, I flew off the chair and right on top of her and she woke up and said, what the heck are you doing, I said nothing, not really, I thought she had stopped breathing, couldn't sleep the rest of the night. Well mom and dad showed up the next morning, then dad & I left and drove home, then I got the call the next morning from mom., she said they were bringing Nancy back home, there was no cure. Headed back to NY, called Linda & Sharon and gave them the news, Linda drove from Indiana and sharon was on the next fight from Ohio , we picked her up at the airport that day on our way back from NY. On Wed. the 12th she was transported back to Cooley Dickinson hospital were we took turns staying with her around the clock, I can remember swabbing her mouth, it was so dry, combing her hair, making her look nice,  I remember it was friday afternoon, I decide to take a break, went to visit a girlfriend who worked at the hospital, I didn't want to leave, when I was coming back, I knew something was wrong, her door was closed, I walk in and the nurse said, call your parents and they had  just left a little while earlier, she said to tell them it 's time, Nancy took her last breath a little after 4 that afternoon, we stayed with her for awhile, telling her we loved her, I know she heard us, she was at peace now
